Welcome to The Colored Water Fountain.

The Colored Water Fountain is an online networking and accountability group for passionate, creative, and ambitious women striving to build emotionally fulfilling, financially empowering careers and companies.

[Fun Fact] Although comprising nearly 30% of the US population, African Americans, Hispanics and Native Americans comprise only 3% of senior leaders in corporations, non-profits and entrepreneurial ventures. That number is even smaller for women of color.

And that kinda sucks. For everyone.

The Colored Water Fountain was developed because we know that a world in which women, especially women of color, are taught to dream big, completely disregard the status quo and what people tell them they “should” be doing, and build kick ass businesses and careers that utilize their skills AND passions – is a better world for everyone!

The bottom line: When you’re emotionally fulfilled and financially empowered, EVERYBODY WINS. You win. Your family wins. Your community wins. The world wins.

The Colored Water Fountain is designed to equip you (ol’ fierce self!) with the key ingredients – a supportive network of peers; personal and professional skill development; and a greater sense of confidence – that you need to take your career or business to the next level.

tcwf private club2

It’s where we hang out with like-minded women and share advice, support, and accountability. TCWF has a broad range of members with different skill sets. The ties that bind aren’t industry specific, but rather stem from legit personal and professional development, genuine relationships, and a desire to build awesome careers and companies.

The Colored Water Fountain has a dual mission: first, taking what has traditionally happened around the water cooler at work – networking, accountability, and support – and bringing it online and second, reclaiming the historical narrative around spaces meant primarily for people of color.

pace where you can

…Make progress on important projects and get sh*t done

…Rewrite internal scripts that get in the way of you doing big things (typically scripts about money, time, success, what you deserve, what you’re capable of, etc.)

… Network, collaborate, and connect with peers + mentors and learn important tools of the trade.

… Cry, release, rejoice, start over, rant, retreat, produce, and experiment, all while experience loving support and accountability.

“The first time I read CGC I could not take my eyes off the computer screen. It was my life, my feelings, my struggles all written down right in front of me. All the little things I’ve known all along but could never make sense of were right there.

I was actually reading the blog as I sat at my 9-5, doubting myself and wondering where my life was going, right then and there I had an epiphany. Yes, yes, yes! I know I can be better and I WANT to do better. Yes, I do put others first, yes I am scared but I can and WILL pursue my dreams.

CGC is a support system of empowerment for all women. It teaches us to open up and accept ourselves, organizes our thoughts, and guides us in the right direction to follow our dreams and pursue our passions. If this is what the CGC blog does for me I can only imagine the things that The Colored Water Fountain will accomplish.”

Before I move into retirement stage, I want to one and for all, get up every day to do something I LOVE doing while getting financially compensated very well to do it so that I CAN give back, develop others and enjoy my life and family.”

“The Colored Girl Confidential blog is full of funny, tell-it-like it is truths that often resonate with me personally. I find myself forwarding the blog posts on to other sister-friends in my sphere of influence to ask their opinion. It is important for women of color to encourage and build ourselves and one another up in meaningful and life-giving outlets. The idea of participating in The Colored Water Fountain inspires me to stop waiting for permission to dream and to start living, giving, and loving fully where I am right now.”

What’s up with the name, The Colored Water Fountain?

The office water cooler has traditionally been a space where colleagues would network, advise, and support one another. We wanted to bring the feel of an office cooler online, while simultaneously reclaiming the historical narrative around spaces meant primarily for people of color.

Why do I need to fill out an application?

The truth is, we’re not looking for just any ol’ body. We’re looking for women who are serious about taking their business or career to the next level. We’re looking for ambitious, creative, fierce women who are going to go out into the word and make us proud! The Colored Water Fountain is only as strong as it’s members and our application process allows us to gauge whether or not you’ll be a good fit.

How do I know if I’ve been accepted into The Colored Water Fountain?

Once you submit your application, you’ll receive an email from us within 48 hours letting you know whether or not your membership has been approved. You will not be charged until you have completed the registration process.

How much does it cost?

As of right now, The Colored Water Fountain membership cost $19 a month. The price will be increasing in the future, and will probably be closer to the $29 range. However, as long as you remain a member, your membership dues will stay locked at where they were when you registered.

Is it a good investment?

The Colored Water Fountain is an investment in you and your big, scary, fabulous dreams. Memberships dues for professional organization, mastermind groups, and career coaching fees can cost hundreds or thousands of dollars a pop. The Colored Water Fountain is all of these things in one and a much more modest investment in comparison.

What’s the time commitment?

With The Colored Water Fountain, you can spend all day in the forums networking with your peers or you can just drop in occasionally for a workshop or to ask a question about a specific challenge or obstacle. Your level of involvement is completely up to you.

If there’s no time commitment, how do I know that other women will participate as actively as I do?

While it’s possible to be as involved or uninvolved as you would like, we reward members who actively participate in our community. Answering other member’s questions, or participating in an event or discussion earns you points that you can redeem for prizes (like a free individual business or career strategy session or access to other exclusive content).

What if it turns out that The Colored Water Fountain isn’t a good fit?

If you decide at any time that The Colored Water Fountain isn’t right for you, let us know and we will cancel your membership immediately. Just give us one piece of critical feedback on how we can make The Colored Water Fountain a better place for career women and entrepreneurs, and voila! No more membership and I get your best piece of advice!

Is The Colored Water Fountain for women of all ages?

The Colored Water Fountain is geared towards women in the first three to seven years of their career or entrepreneurial journey. Because many women shift in and out of different careers and entrepreneurial ventures throughout their lives, we anticipate that our membership will include a diverse array of women in their 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s.

Do I have to be a woman of color?

Nope. Don’t get me wrong, we’ll definitely be taking about things like identity, racism, and privilege but The Colored Water Fountain is a safe space for women of all colors to become more empowered and self-aware, especially around issues of race and gender.

“You rock for creating CGC as a space where I can see my own reflection. It is awesome to regularly hear about the trials, successes, delayed successes aka failures that you share with us regularly.

I am SUPER excited about The Colored Water Fountain cuz hell, we go into debt to go to school for everything else and still wander around the world at 30 struggling to figure out what we want to be when we grow up! Thank you for being the space to share those lessons us Colored Girls never learn in traditional schools!”

“This blog and The Colored Water Fountain are important because we all need support. I am pursuing my goals while continuing to make a living and support my sons. I read your blog because it helps to know I am not out here alone. Others share my journey and I share theirs.”
